If you want to see a Posse win against the Outlaws, Anthony Macri might be your only hope. We'll talk about that today, plus Tyler Erb's strange comments, late models in Illinois, Short Track Super Series and more. Let's go!
It's Wednesday, May 8th, I'm Justin Fiedler. This is DIRTRACKR Daily presented by Kubota Genuine Parts.
Did you know that over at dirtrackr.com, I've got an entire section of the website devoted to just dirt racing stats and analysis? It's got race results and stat breakdowns for all the top national series and special events, and at this moment is approaching 1900 races worth of data. There is a ton of information that you can check out there for free, including race results, driver pages, and a bunch of stats. But if you want access to every tool and number I use for researching the daily shows, grab a subscription to DIRTRACKR Plus. $4.99 a month, or $49.99 a year. The year subscription gets you two months free effectively. And you can cancel any time very easily. And don't worry about inflation, as this is the same price it's been since I started Plus several years ago. Signing up gets you access to the Plus Dashboard which has added stat tools and visualizations. Unlock more than 25 extra features, including exclusive insights not found anywhere else. Whether you're a race fan, member of the media, or work for a series or track, DIRTRACKR Plus is the perfect resource for current dirt racing data to elevate your knowledge. Both World of Outlaws series, all three USAC National divisions, the Chili Bowl, High Limit, Lucas and a lot more. Some of your favorite drivers and media members are already signed up for DIRTRACKR Plus. See everything Plus has to offer and sign up for a subscription over at dirtrackr.com/getplus.
At Lincoln Speedway tonight, we get the first round of World of Outlaws vs PA Posse tonight, with the Gettysburg Clash coming up. This will lead into two nights at Williams Grove this weekend. David Gravel your current Outlaw championship leader over Donny Schatz and Gio Scelzi. Gravel also the winner of two of the last three Outlaw races. I don't know that I'd pick DG tonight though, as he hasn't led laps in a feature at Lincoln since 2019, and hasn't won there since 2017. The Outlaws were shutout at Lincoln in 2023, with Anthony Macri and Rico Abreu taking wins. Jacob Allen was the last Outlaw winner, back in 2022. The last guy to win an Outlaw show at Lincoln, that is actually currently still an Outlaw driver, was Sheldon Haudenschild in 2020. I'd definitely put my money on Macri tonight. Defending race winner, and already two wins at Lincoln this season. Macri and the 39M team had tough outings their last two races, with a 20th at the Grove, and rear end issues at Eldora that put them on the truck early. But they should get back on track tonight. I wonder though if we are again at a point where it's Macri or bust if you are a Posse fan. It doesn't seem as though Brent Marks is racing tonight with High Limit in the midwest, and he's the next best option. From there, we haven't seen a ton of success from other PA drivers. Devon Borden was third in the first Lincoln race last year, but doesn't have an Outlaw top ten since in 11 starts. Danny Dietrich usually runs well against the Outlaws at Lincoln, but he hasn't won an Outlaw show since Bridgeport in 2019. Freddie Rahmer has an Outlaw win at Lincoln, but that was back in 2018, and his last Outlaw top five was at the Grove in 2022. And it doesn't sound like we'll get a Lance Dewease appearance tonight. Do you guys feel like there are any other drivers capable of really challenging for the win tonight? I guess maybe an outside shot for Chase Dietz or Troy Wagaman Jr. Let me know what you think in the comments below. If you can't get to Lincoln tonight, watch it live on DIRTVision.
In Illinois, we were supposed to get the opening to speedweek tonight with the FloRacing Night in American Series at Spoon River, but as of just a little bit ago, that race is rained out. They will try again tomorrow at Lincoln. The Lincoln show will be followed by Lucas races at Farmer City and Fairbury Friday and Saturday. I had already worked up a full preview of everything to come with the Flo series, so we'll just stick with it even though tonight is rained out. The Flo series is back this season with mostly midweek races for the mini series that will run until Senoia in November. All races are at least $20,000 to win, and with perfect attendance the champion will bag $75,000. This is year four of the series with Jonathan Davenport, Brandon Sheppard, and Bobby Pierce the first three champions. Pierce leads all drivers in the win column, with five in series history. Others with multiple wins include Hudson O'Neal, Davenport, Dennis Erb Jr., Ricky Thornton Jr., Kyle Larson, Sheppard, and Jimmy Owens. FloRacing's Kyle McFadden says the full timers list this season includes Pierce, Sheppard, Carson Ferguson, Daulton Wilson, Dennis Erb Jr., Devin Moran, Garrett Alberson, Max Blair, Mike Marlar, RTJ, Tanner English, Tim McCreadie, and don't say I'm off the Lucas tour Tyler Erb. If you don't know what I'm referring to there, Tyler Erb did an interview with Kevin Kovac of Dirt on Dirt late last week about falling off the Lucas tour, just to appear in a video with XR over the weekend where he claimed he never said he was off the tour. He must have suddenly forgot all of those quotes he gave to Kovac about picking and choosing for the rest of the season. Convenient for him, the Lucas weekend rained out, so it didn't matter that he went to Mississippi Thunder and his status hasn't changed if he and his BEST team decide to stay with Lucas. All of those other guys I previously mentioned, plus a bunch of the Illinois regulars will be in attendance this week, plus others like Logan Seavey, who is scheduled to make his super late model debut driving for Chris Bragg, with help from Vinny Guliani. With no Outlaw racing this weekend, I would expect healthy fields through the weekend, and for guys to run most of, if not all of the nights. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say pretty easily into the 40s for car counts all weekend. The entire weekend will be streamed live on FloRacing if you can't get to the race track. Visit dirtrackr.com/floracing to get a FloRacing pass, click the link below in the video description, or the FloRacing links at dirtrackr.com.
The Short Track Super Series gets rolling tonight after a two month break since Port Royal back in March. They are at Delaware International Speedway tonight for $5000 to win. This kicks off a busy month of May where the modified series will be in action five times, with other stops coming up at Accord Speedway, Action Track USA, Brookfield Fairgrounds, and Airborne Park. With just one race complete, there isn't much to talk about yet with the championship battle in the south region, but Matt Sheppard is already doing Matt Sheppard things. He's made 15 starts in 2024, and already has 10 victories, including wins at DIRTcar Nationals, that $50k win at Port Royal, three wins during the sunshine swing, and three weekly wins at Utica-Rome already. Nobody else is even close to those kind of numbers right now, and not just in modifieds, but anywhere in dirt racing. Tonight's card also includes 602 sportsman, and local divisions. If you aren't headed to the track, watch live on FloRacing.
If you would like to check out some more dirt racing audio this week, Winged Nation has Lance Dewease and David Gravel, Dirt Track Confessions has Michael Rigsby, Hoogie's Garage has Hunter Hanson, and Getting up to Speed has Jorddon Braaten and Boddie Parker. There are also new episode of the Dirt Reporters from Dirt on Dirt, the Dirt Nerds, Quicktime, Turn 2 Terribles, Ohio Dirt, Plum Wild, and the Driver's Project. To see all of these shows and recent episodes, head over to dirtrackr.com/podcasts.
That's it for the Daily show today. Make sure to stop by dirtrackr.com/watchtonight to see your daily streaming options, including links to watch everything.
Hope you guys have a great Wednesday out there, we'll see you back here tomorrow!
