You ain't gotta go home, but you've gotta get the hell up outta here... | Daily 5-20-2024

On the show today, we're talking Jacob Allen's feast or famine season so far, a bounceback win for Bobby Pierce, Nick Hoffman on three wheels, did Stockton get better, and Angell Park Speedway says you ain't gotta go home, but you've got to get the hell up out of here. Let's go!

It's Monday, May 20th, I'm Justin Fiedler. This is DIRTRACKR Daily presented by Kubota Genuine Parts.

It was a busy Sunday around the country, with all sorts of dirt racing going on. We'll start first with the World of Outlaws late models at Path Valley. Wild weekend for Chris Madden. Dominates Thursday at Raceway 7, then goes B-Main transfer to the win on Saturday at Marion Center. It was officially 22nd to the win. And then last night, he was out of the main event before it even started. It looked like maybe some sort of electrical issue during pace laps. They were checking plug wires and the distributor, but he never made it back out. So all of the progress he'd made in the standings is all lost again, and he's back to fourth, 60 points out. Nick Hoffman led the first couple of circuits, before Mason Zeigler took over on lap three. Zeigler though couldn't hold off a charging Bobby Pierce later in the race, with Pierce taking control for good on lap 28 in traffic. Outlaw win number two on the season, and a bit of a bounceback for Pierce after a rough couple of weeks. Third in a B at Farmer City and 16th at Fairbury, both with Lucas. Then 10th and 13th coming into Sunday. Maybe just an odd blip on the schedule for the 32 team. Still plenty of work to do to climb out of that penalty hole though, with Pierce still seventh in the standings, 112 back. Hoffman barely hangs on to the championship lead headed into this coming weekend's action. He ended up seventh after leading those laps early. The left front got knocked off the nine machine somehow, and Hoffman drove most of that feature on three wheels. There was contact in there somewhere with Zeigler, and I don't know if that broke that left front or not. Impressive work though that he was able to scratch out a top ten. BShepp on the podium, so the gap between the two is just four points. Ultimate Motorsports Park is next on the schedule for the Outlaws.

In Missouri, Logan Seavey grabbed USAC midget win number one of the season last night at Sweet Springs. Kale Drake and Daison Pursley led laps late, but both ended up out after incidents. Seavey drove up from sixth to win, leading just the final two laps. With only three races complete, Cannon McIntosh leads the championship over Pursley, Zach Daum, Seavey, and Ryan Timms. We won't see the USAC midgets again until June 4th at Circle City, which kicks off Indiana Midget Week.

Jacob Allen picked up the Sunday sprint car win at BAPS Motor Speedway, leading every lap and topping Cory Eliason and Danny Dietrich. Allen now has three wins on the year, one with High Limit, one with Maverick, and now this BAPS victory. This season has really been feast or famine for the Shark Racing 1A up to this point. The win at Golden Isles, followed by top four finishes against High Limit at Texas Motor Speedway and RPM Speedway had Jacob right near the top of the High Limit standings. But in the 11 races since, Jacob has been out of the top ten in ten of those races, including five straight runs of 18th or worse currently. He's now fallen outside the top ten in the championship battle. Hopefully this BAPS win will pump some confidence and momentum back in, because spicy High Limit Jacob Allen running up front is just better for sprint car racing.

For the NARC sprint cars, they were back at Stockton yesterday after track promoter Tony Nocetti took a few weeks to try and smooth out some of the issues. If you might remember, they reconfigured Stockton into a much smaller track, and there were problems during the first NARC event there, including a rough surface, and some safety concerns. Running some concrete wall down the backstretch looks like it's taken the pump house out of play for a crash into turn three, but the surface was still cowboy up. Justin Sanders inherited the lead after Billy Aton had problems in turn two and also collected second running Tanner Carrick. Sean Becker and Shane Golobic also on the podium. I'd say that there is still work to do at Stockton to make this reconfigure work. The NARC sprint cars won't be back to the track until the season finale on November 2nd. Next up for the 410 series is a June 1st stop at Placerville. Cole Macedo still the championship leader.

We had a very strange situation last night at Angell Park Speedway with the IRA Sprint Cars, and one that I don't know that I have a memory of seeing, at least recently. They had three divisions on the card, legends, Badger Midgets, plus the IRA, and somehow the IRA feature didn't make it to completion. Not because of rain, or something like a power outage. But because of the the local curfew for the track. With that hard curfew staring the program in the face, they decided to run the legends and midgets first, and by the time the sprint cars were on track, time was running short. Like we also saw at Stockton, the Angell Park surface was cowboy up, and in the first 12 laps we had Scotty Thiel spin and collect a few cars, and a red flag for Dave Uttech turned over. Obviously both created delays the night couldn't afford. Then a yellow was thrown on lap 12 when Logan Julien slowed, and while they were circling around and getting lineups set, they just sent everyone through the infield back to the trucks and the night was over. They weren't to half way, and the curfew was in place, so race over, feature incomplete. All drivers were given equal points and equal pay for the event. Travis Arenz was the leader at the time, over Kyle Schuett and Tylar Rankin. That's a tough look for the track and the series, and maybe they need to take a look at how these programs are laid out in the future. I saw as well that things were possibly delayed to start the night, and if that was the case, they need to make adjustments. You have a traveling 410 sprint car series come through, and their race doesn't get finished, but the local divisions did. Even if you aren't going to alter the schedule on the fly, I would have liked to have seen a little more urgency as well there towards the end, maybe shifting the midget race victory celebration until the end of the program, and nixing the IRA four wide. Push the sprint cars off and start the thing. They needed three more laps for an official event, which means just a few more minutes would have done it. I like the IRA, I like Angell Park Speedway, and I know sometimes things go sideways with event management, but that kind of an end to the night is hard to explain to folks who bought tickets, and those racers who came out to the track. I do feel for the IRA staffers today though. Having worked for a series on those nights where things just go sideways, you know the social media mentions and emails are going to be hard to look at.
