Corey Day's ARCA debut confirmed, High Limit heads for Lernerville but some others aren't, Terbo wins a wild one, and the Canadians gets on the board. Let's go!
It's Tuesday, July 23rd, I'm Justin Fiedler. This is DIRTRACKR Daily presented by Kubota Genuine Parts.
Over in the merch store at shop.dirtrackr.com, new t-shirts are in. And these are different from what we've done in the past. I wanted to go back to some more fun designs, not just logo stuff, and this is the first ever multi-color shirt we've had. Cool push trucks and sprint cars go hand-in-hand, so I put them on a shirt. If you've bought before, these are similar style to those I've done in the past, which are the more fitted, softer material, 60/40 blend shirts. Sizes in stock from small to 4XL, and they are $25 plus shipping. You can also grab a logo or daily show sticker with your order. Let me know what you think, because if you like this type of design, I've got a long list of other ideas that are in the same ballpark. Don't forget as well, if you are a channel member, you get 10% off DIRTRACKR merch at all times. Grab one now at shop.dirtrackr.com.
The main story on yesterday's show was Corey Day making his next pavement start, bumping up to the ARCA series this coming weekend at Salem Speedway. We are still waiting on the official entry list for the event from ARCA, but the series did confirm yesterday afternoon that Day is entered, and he will drive the number 28 Pinnacle Racing Group Chevrolet. Connor Zilisch and Connor Mosack have both won this season driving that car, and Zilisch is tied with William Sawalich for the most series wins in 2024 with three. The last driver to win their ARCA debut was Luke Fenhaus, who won at Iowa last season driving for Pinnacle. Thanks to ARCA for that stat. Salem Speedway is a wild, high banked short track, that's sorta like an old, worn out Bristol that you run right up against the wall through the corners. Cool place to checkout if you haven't been before. This will be pavement start number two for Day, who previously ran a double feature late model night at Hickory Motor Speedway in the spring. I've seen several people mention that Day was in attendance on Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to see Kyle Larson win the Brickyard 400, and I've also been told that Day's development deal with Hendrick Motorsports has already been signed. It's not been confirmed or announced publicly, but it has supposedly been in place for several months. That was something I had previously speculated about. As I said yesterday, I would expect more paved starts for Day later this season, especially when the sprint car schedule cools a bit. I've heard more ARCA races are possible, and if this weekend goes well, some could come at even higher levels.
If you want to see Corey Day race the sprint car tonight, you are in luck. The Kubota High Limit sprint cars are headed for Lernerville Speedway and the $25,000 to win Silver Cup. I believe this will be round number seven of the High Limit midweek championship, which Tyler Courtney leads at the moment. Brad Sweet still leads Sunshine and Brent Marks for the overall season title. Rico Abreu and Day are the final two charter positioned drivers. Quick sidebar here, I've been asked a few times about the charter situation with Day if he does indeed earn one, and then leave full time sprint car racing. The charters are not tied to drivers, but instead the teams. So the charter would belong to Jason Meyers, who owns the 14 car that Day drives. What Meyers would do with that charter, and what drivers he might potentially hire to fill the void is a separate discussion, and maybe the center of a future Daily show. The pre-entry list for tonight shows 30 cars, which includes all the High Limit teams, plus a bunch of locals and some Central PA guys. Names like AJ Flick, Sye Lynch, Brandon Spithaler, Anthony Macri, Kody Hartlaub, and Carl Bowser are among those expected. This race tonight is one of the final opportunities for World of Outlaws teams to use a freebie with High Limit, but coming off of the Kings Royal weekend, none are pre-entered. I don't know that I'd expect any last minute additions, but it's possible. It's also of note that Kyle Larson is not listed on the entries. David Gravel was the winner of this race a year ago, but barring a last minute change in plans, doesn't appear as though he'll be back to defend. I'd think that puts guys like Rico and Brad Sweet at the top of the favorites list. If you can't get to Lernerville tonight, watch it live on FloRacing.
In racing action last night, Tyler Erb picked up his first career XR Super Series victory in during the first of two nights at Davenport Speedway. He topped Hudson O'Neal and Bobby Pierce at the checkered. There was a big pileup on the first lap that bent plenty of race cars, and several drivers needed trips to the hot pit for service through the event. Max Blair also none too pleased with Terbo after the race for a move he made while the two were battling for the top spot. They had a nice 35 car field, but I was a bit surprised to see no Ricky Thornton Jr. That Koehler team may be taking the opportunity of a week off to reset after this opening stretch with their new driver. We do know that RTJ is running the Prairie Dirt Classic this coming weekend with Kevin Rumley. The XR Super Series is right back to it tonight at Davenport for another $15,000 to win race.
Up in Canada, Michael Parent became the first French-Canadian driver to win with the Super DIRTcar Series at Autodrome Drummond since 2002. Parent took advantage when race leader Justin Stone had a flat tire under caution just past half way, and he went the distance. Mat Williamson, Tim Sears Jr., Matt Sheppard, and Alex Payne were the rest of the top five. Sheppard still leads the championship, with Williamson now six back in second. Anthony Perrego is now 35 back in fourth after he had multiple issues last night. The big blocks are right back to it tonight at Drummond for another $10,000 to win show, before heading to Brockville on Wednesday.
Elsewhere tonight, the Southern Nationals are headed for Cherokee Speedway in South Carolina. They've got another $7500 to win show. Donald McIntosh still in front in that championship, and this one will be live on Flo as well.
One correction from yesterday. I said that Dominic Gorden won at Skagit, when he actually won at Grays Harbor. My apologies, and thanks to everyone who pointed out my error.
