Coming up, can one dirt late model veteran turn things around with help from Longhorn and Kevin Rumley? Plus another late model star has seen his results tick up, but he's got a decision to make for the weekend. That and a lot more today. Let's go!
It's Thursday, May 1st, I'm Justin Fiedler. This is DIRTRACKR Daily presented by Kubota Genuine Parts.
A couple of late model things for you off the top of the show today. First, it's decision time for Jimmy Owens. The Newport Nightmare has been toeing the line between full time status on both the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series up to this point in 2025. But those two series conflict this weekend, so Owens and his Koehler Motorsports team will need to choose between the Outlaws at Mississippi Thunder and Hunt the Front at Lavonia and Cherokee. The schedule on his website as I write this doesn't show anything past last weekend's Outlaw racing at Talladega. And there is conflicting information on at Dirt on Dirt. The top 25 for this week says likely Hunt the Front, but the racewire for tonight's Outlaw race has him listed as an expected entrant. Owens' last two finishes were a third with the Outlaws at Talladega, and a second at Tazewell with the Spring Nationals. Word on the streets is that modified racer Jake O'Neil was working on some race car stuff at Jimmy's shop recently, and he and his guys have been traveling to a few races helping out the 20 team. O'Neil has been spotted in some photos and videos at the track, so the added help might be a reason behind the uptick in performance. Owens is currently sixth in the Hunt the Front standings, and 12th with the Outlaws. There are some rain chances in Wisconsin this weekend, so we'll see what Jimmy decides to do.
Another driver to keep an eye on this weekend with the World of Outlaws late models is Tim McCreadie. TMac flipped from a Rocket chassis to a Longhorn starting at Farmer City for the Illini 100. That weekend wasn't great with finishes of 21st and 19th, but this past weekend at Dega was much better. McCreadie going 12th to seventh in the hundred lapper on Saturday night. He was spotted last week at Ultimate Motorsports Park in North Carolina testing with Kevin Rumley. The Rumley slash Longhorn R&D car was there, as was McCreadie's nine car owned by Boom Briggs. It appeared as though maybe McCreadie was making laps in both. TMac obvously the Longhorn house car driver before Brandon Overton and Brandon Sheppard, so testing with Rumley will be nothing new to him. We saw all of this thanks to social posts from both McCreadie's side, but also late model driver Luke Morey, who was also in attendance. I wouldn't be surprised to see TMac go a little better here in the coming races, especially with Rumley helping get things straightened out. McCreadie hasn't raced at Mississippi Thunder with the Outlaws since 2021. He's currently ninth in the Outlaw standings with one top five and three top tens.

Looking ahead to the next few days, a lot of different racing coming up. I've already mentioned the World of Outlaws late models and Hunt the Front shows. You've also got the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series headed for Circle City and Florence. Circle City is a new stop for Lucas, but that track did host the Outlaws in 2021. Brandon Sheppard finished second that night, so maybe something to look forward to for the Rocket team. The last time the spring show at Florence happened was 2023, and Ricky Thornton Jr. was the winner. he and Jonathan Davenport have won a bunch at the Kentucky track in recent years. We'll also be keeping an eye on the battle for that fourth chase spot that Garrett Alberson currently has, with Brandon Overton and Daulton Wilson chasing.
In the southeast, the Hunt the Front series will be battling the Spring Nationals for cars, as that series has stops at Sugar Creek and Dixie Friday and Saturday. Wil Herrington currently leading that championship, and we'll see who decides to go which direction.
Weekend sprint car and open wheel action will be busy with a bunch of shows coming up. The World of Outlaws and USAC sprint cars hit Eldora for Let's Race Two. Carson Macedo and Logan Schuchart trying to keep pace with David Gravel, but Gravel and the 2 team won two of four Outlaw shows at Eldora last year, including the Kings Royal. Schuchart is always fast there, and Macedo won in 2023. We'll see if anyone else can rise up, and we'll be watching the Eldora debut for Ashton Torgerson in the Shark Racing 1A. We know as well that Brady Bacon will do the double, driving the TKH 21 with the wing on, and the Chris Dyson owned 20 with the wing off. Kyle Cummins leads the USAC standings over Justin Grant and Daison Pursley heading to Eldora. Pursley will fall down the order though, as he won't be racing.
And the reason Pursley isn't racing, is because High Limit is at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track tonight and Saturday. Last night's show at Texarkana 67 was rained out. They should be in the neighborhood of 30ish sprint cars, with the High Limit regulars, regional guys, plus NASCAR drivers Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Christopher Bell, and Ty Gibbs, plus Kyle Larson. Corey Day is going to race Saturday, and Bell will split the weekend in the 69K with Daryn Pittman. One cancellation note, that Friday POWRi Elite Outlaw show at Rocket Raceway Park is off because of rain. CBell and the Kreitz 69K were going to race this one, and it was clear they were trying to draw others in as well. But Friday will now just be an off day for the sprint car teams.
Other weekend options without fenders includes POWRi midgets at Sweet Springs, IRA at Wilmot, MOWA in Missouri at Farmington Empire, FAST at Mercer, plus weekly racing in Ohio, California, and Central PA. Drop me a comment and let me know what your weekend racing plans are, either watching online or heading to the track. Or hell, maybe both.
