Dirt Late Model Dreams at Eldora start tonight, Indiana Midget Week back | DIRTRACKR Daily 6/9/21

It is Wednesday, June 9th, two thousand and twenty one. Welcome into DIRTRACKR Daily. I'm Justin Fiedler.

Today we've got the Dreams to talk about, Indiana Midget week fires back up, there is some news, new podcast episodes and more. Let's get going.

We haven't had one of the traditional crown jewels at Eldora since 2019, but that all changes this week. Starting tonight, we are getting not one, but two Dirt Late Model Dreams. So let's set this up. Tonight and tomorrow are technically Dream 27. There are two $10,000 to win prelim features tonight which will set up Thursday's heat race lineups. Following tomorrow's heats and B main action, we'll go racing for $127,000 to win. Then Friday, it starts all over again with Dream 26. Friday will again be two prelim $10,000 to win features, with Saturday night paying $126,000 to win. Winners over the next four nights will take home $273,000, with total purse money approaching $800,000. The field this week will no doubt be a who's who of dirt late model racing. Through 25 previous Dirt Late Model Dreams, we've had 16 different winners. Scott Bloomquist leads all drivers with eight event wins. Freddy Smith and Billy Moyer each have two. Others that have won include Donnie Moran, Jimmy Mars, Rick Eckert, Darrell Lanigan, Matt Miller, Steve Casebolt, Jimmy Owens, Don O'Neal, Shane Clanton, Dale McDowell, Jonathan Davenport, Dennis Erb Jr., and Brandon Sheppard. BShepp is the most recent Dream winner, back in 2019. When it comes to possible winners this week, you are looking at the usual suspects. Davenport has obviously been very good in 2021, and he's coming off a weekend sweep of the Historic 100. You can can't out the Rocket house car when big money is on the line. Tim McCreadie won the Dirt Late Model Stream at Eldora last year. Brandon Overton will be in attendance and he's always very good at Eldora. Outside of the top guys, you're going to hear a lot about Kyle Larson over the next four nights. He's back in the K&L Rumley six, and while he doesn't have a late model start at Eldora, he's no stranger to winning at the famed Ohio track. Already this season he has wins with Lucas and the the Flo Night in America series and it will be hard to not keep an eye on him. As we've documented on this show, he's been on one hell of a streak these last few weeks and it hasn't mattered what car type or surface he's been on. Outside of the top guys, I'm curious to see how Ohio's Ryan Missler performs. He was the winner of the FloRacing contest to help get him to the track, and he's a past guest of mine on DIRTRACKR conversations. Also, on the Dirt on Dirt videocast this week, Ben Shelton said this could be one of the last times we see the hall of famer Billy Moyer at Eldora, so that could be a story line to follow as well. If you can't be at Eldora this weekend, you can watch live on FloRacing. If you aren't a Flo subscriber already, and would like to help out DIRTRACKR, click one of the FloRacing links or banners at dirtrackr.com or in the YouTube subscription to buy. We will obviously continue talking about the Dreams all week, so enjoy the racing and we'll be back tomorrow to recap all the action.

Elsewhere tonight, if you aren't a late model fan, Indiana Midget Week kicks back up after two nights off. The USAC National midgets will be in action at Circle City Raceway in Indianapolis for night number five. Through the first four races, we had four different winners, with Thomas Meseraull, Buddy Kofoid, Logan Seavey, and Kyle Cummins all bagging victories. With four nights still to race, Chris Windom leads Kofoid by 13 points in the race for the midget week title. Seavey, Justin Grant, and Daison Pursley round out the top five. Even though he hasn't won yet, Windom has been very good through the opening stretch with finishes of 9th, 2nd, 3rd, and 2nd. I'm also curious to see what we get from Grant going forward. He hasn't finished outside the top ten yet this season in USAC midget competition and he's looking for his first win of 2021. I do still think though that Kofoid is the favorite even though he currently trails Windom. He is capable of winning any night out and just keeps getting better and better in the midget. His average finish for the season is an insanely low 3.6. I do hope that we see Tanner Thorson bounce back for the second half of the week. His best finish so far is 6th at Bloomington and he's been a non-factor. I feel like USAC midget competition is better when Thorson is at or near the front. Another driver to watch tonight is Jarett Andretti. He will run both the USAC midget race and MSCS race tonight at Circle City to honor his late father, John Andretti. Jarrett is climbing behind the wheel of the number 51 for RMS, teaming up with Grant and TMez. It will be only his second career midget appearance. Flo will have live coverage tonight and for the rest of Indiana Midget Week.

Following the success of last weekend's Historic 100 at West Virginia Motor Speedway, we found out yesterday that in 2022 that event will be an official Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event. Taking place June 3rd and 4th, Friday night's show next year will be bumped to $15,000 to win, with Saturday culminating in a 50 lap, $50,000 to win feature. Cody Watson and the team at WVMS have done a really nice job revitalizing the track, and this will be a nice addition to both the track and series schedule next season. Find more details on the announcement at lucasdirt.com.

Last night's Short Track Super Series race at Big Diamond Speedway was lost to rain. Series and track officials are working to find a reschedule date. Up next is July 4th at Fonda for $10,000 to win.

The Super DIRTcar Series announced a penalty yesterday for driver Max McLaughlin following an altercation back on May 30th at Weedsport Speedway. He's been fined $500 and placed on probation until October 15th for quote pushing another competitor's car into the pit area, and for Mike McLaughlin entering another competitor's pit area and causing a physical confrontation. You can find details on the announcement at superdirtcarseries.com.
