Jonathan Davenport stacking cash in 2022, adds another $73,000 to late model winnings | Daily 7-26-2022

Jonathan Davenport stayed hot on Monday, we'll talk about that plus where you can see him on Tuesday. We've also got Indiana Sprint Week results, and what other racing is on tap tonight. Let's go!

It's Tuesday, July 26th, I'm Justin Fiedler. This is DIRTRACKR Daily.

I love these weeks where this stuff happening every night, and obviously by stuff I mean big time races. Last night was a Monday and we had a $20,000 to win World of Outlaws Late Model show, we had Indiana Sprint Week, and things just keep rolling along tonight. I'm here for all the midweek racing during the summer.

So let's start with the Outlaws from Boone Speedway last night. Jonathan Davenport made the trek to Boone from I-80 on Monday, as did several other drivers, and Superman was able to keep the momentum rolling coming off that Sunday evening win in the Silver Dollar Nationals. He bagged $53k for that win, and tacked on another $20,000 last night. He grabbed the lead from pole sitter Tyler Bruening on lap three and was unchallenged the rest of the distance. It was his third Outlaw win of the season, and his 13th career victory with the series. And like I mentioned yesterday, he just keeps adding to that money total for the year. Behind him, series points leader Dennis Erb Jr. drove up from eighth to finish second, with Mike Marlar completing the podium. Marlar just continues to be super strong in these big late model races. He hasn't finished outside the top five with Lucas since an eighth place run at West Virginia on June 4th. And he's got five podiums in his last six Outlaw appearances, which includes wins at Red Cedar and Mississippi Thunder. We have Prairie Dirt Classic coming up later this week, and the North South 100 and Topless 100 coming up for Lucas in August. I would not be shocked to see Marlar score some of these big wins with all the success he's had lately. He's been just a completely different guy since that crash and injury at Lucas Oil Speedway. It's pretty wild the bounceback he's had after really struggling early in the year, especially on the Lucas side. In the win picks department, the correct Davenport selection last night was my 40th right call of 2022. That brings me to just a little over 23%. The prediction formula has fallen way behind, with 19 correct picks. Headed to Fairbury later this week for $50,000 to win, Erb continues to stretch that lead for the Outlaw championship with Blair 186 back and Tanner English 194 back. We'll talk more Fairbury and PDC later in the week.

After some weather issues through the weekend, we did get round number two of Indiana Sprint Week completed last night at Circle City Raceway. CJ Leary made a late move around Brady Bacon to score the win, which was his third USAC national sprint car victory of the season. Justin Grant nipped Bacon at the line for second, with Brady ending up third. Thanks to a pair of second place finishes so far, Justin Grant leads the Sprint Week standings headed to Kokomo tonight. Grant has also extended his season long lead to 97 points, with Bacon and Robert Ballou tied for second. Ryan Timms was in the field last night, he got a chance to drive the Keith Kunz sprint car and was impressive, starting the feature in sixth and ending up 10th. Supposedly he's going to run a few more nights this week. Also, he didn't get the finish at the end down in 14th, but Briggs Danner was impressive again last night. We normally see him when USAC goes to the northeast, and you'd expect him to be comfortable on the tracks up there, with as much racing as he does. But roll to Circle City, start on the front row and lead some laps really says something about him as a driver. He was 11th at Gas City and 14th last night, but I think that first national win isn't far off, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened this week. Looking at tonight, Kevin Thomas Jr. was a winner at Kokomo as was Justin Grant. Tyler Courtney, Kyle Cummins, and CJ Leary were all winners there in 2020. The dirtrackr.com analytics prediction formula likes Bacon, I think I'm going Grant. This one will be live on FloRacing.

In the virtual dirt racing world, the iRacing World of Outlaws Late Model World Championship kicked off last night at Fairbury. Again, 10 races on the schedule with $25,000 in prize money on the line. The series also has a new title sponsor for this season in sim racing product company Buttkicker. In last night's feature, Damian Kiefer led the field to green from the pole, but Evan Seay was quickly to the front. He looked like he might go the distance, but on the final lap, defending series champion Hayden Cardwell threw a big slider into the final two corners and drag raced Seay back to the line, scoring the victory. Seay had to settle for second, with Blake Matjoulis third, Kiefer fourth, and Kendal Tucker fifth. These races take place every Monday night starting at 9PM ET and are broadcasted on both DIRTVision and YouTube. Next week, they take on Cedar Lake Speedway.

And up at Autodrome Granby in Quebec last night, Mat Williamson topped Carey Terrance for a $5000 big block modified score with the Canadian Big Block Series.

Around the country tonight, we've got the Short Track Super Series, ASCS, Southern Nationals, MARS and more going on. The Short Track Super Series is at Bridgeport for $5000 to win as part of the south region championship. Ryan Godown currently has a slight 15 point advantage over Matt Sheppard in the standings. Godown could definitely be in line to extend, as Bridgeport is his home turf, and he's really good there. We'll also see Sheppard, Billy Pauch Jr, Ryan Watt, Matt Stangle, and plenty of others tonight. This one is on FloRacing.

The ASCS National Tour continues their speedweek with the rescheduled race at Tulsa Speedway tonight. Tulsa was supposed to be the opener, but it was pushed back because of rain. Tonight's show kicks off five straight nights of racing, with Caney Valley, 81, Creek County, and Salina coming up through Saturday. Tim Crawley and Wayne Johnson have already won during speedweek.

The Southern Nationals late models are headed to Toccoa tonight for $10,000 to win. Cory Hedgecock currently leads Will Roland and Carson Ferguson in the championship standings with six races completed. After tonight, only three more shows remain on the schedule.

And out in Iowa at Davenport, the MARS series is racing for $10,000 to win in the Hoker 50. Jason Feger is the current MARS points leader, but this field could be stacked tonight with so many guys in the midwest for the PDC this week. Sounds like Jonathan Davenport, Hudson O'Neal, Ricky Thornton Jr., Tyler Erb, Mike Marlar, Ryan Gustin and others will join the MARS regulars. If you're a late model fan, you'll need split screens on Flo between the Southern Nationals and this one.

There are nine shows on today's streaming schedule. That includes outlaw karts from Millbridge and IMCA action from Jackson Motorplex on DIRTVision. FloRacing has the Short Track Super Series from Bridgeport, MARS late models at Davenport, Southern Nationals at Toccoa, USAC at Kokomo, and ASCS at Tulsa. The Western Sprint Tour is at Cottage Grove on Speed Sport as well. To see the full daily streaming schedule with links to watch, visit dirtrackr.com/watchtonight.
