Top late model series in 2023, Lucas or Outlaws? Plus comparing title runs and more of your questions | Daily 8-22-2023

It's question and answer day, and we'll talk Brad Sweet vs. Donny Schatz, Lucas vs. Outlaws, Kyle Larson over a full season, sprint cars vs midgets, and a lot more. Let's go!

It's Tuesday, August 22nd, I'm Justin Fiedler. This is DIRTRACKR Daily.

Before we get into today's mailbag slash Q&A show, let's do a merch discount. Use code "DAILY" over at shop.dirtrackr.com and get 20% off your order. That discount is good on everything in the store right now, and you will still get free shipping on orders over $20 in the US. That includes both logo shirt options, the three different stickers, the koozies, I have a few of the $10 late model shirts left, and I have one Flexfit hat still here. It's a small/medium. So code "DAILY" at checkout at shop.dirtrackr.com for 20% off. The code will expire on Wednesday at midnight eastern.

Yesterday I reached out on YouTube for some questions for today's show, so we'll get into those as today's main topic. We will talk a little about some racing towards the end today as well. It does feel like we are in a bit of a lull right now between some big races and the news cycle seems to have slowed just a bit. But those are probably famous last words. But here are the questions from you and my best answers.

First up...

5off5onRFK says: You’ve mentioned working on a nascar team before. Could you give us a little more detail about what you did ?

Landon asks: Have you ever raced? If so what type of car. Also what is your stand on the state of micro racing right now?

Darren wants to know: Does Brad have a chance to pass Donny in outlaw championships?

Chris asks: How do the stats of Brad Sweet’s four championships in a row compare to the streaks that Donny Schatz put together in 2006-09 and 2014-18. Wins, average finish, top 5s, top 10s, DNFs etc.

MegC wants to know: What's the biggest difference between a midget and a sprint car in the way they race? And also do you know what the prices and expenses are on a midget vs a sprint car?

Chase says: If Kyle Larson ran a full outlaw season, where does he finish in points? How about Lucas in a late model?

TP asks: What is the premier Late model series this year? WoO or Lucas?

Alright, that's it for the Q&A, thanks to everyone who submitted questions. We'll do this again soon.

A couple of racing things to talk about before we shut down. The Western Sprint Tour's Speedweek is going on right now out west. Last night they were at Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon and it was Dominic Scelzi going to victory lane over Logan Forler. They had 23 360 sprint cars, including several California guys like Scelzi, Willie Croft, Tony Gomes, and Chase Johnson. They are racing every night through Saturday, with stops coming up at Coos Bay, Douglas County, Southern Oregon, Silver Dollar, and Placerville.

Up at Ransomville tonight, the Super DIRTcar Series is coming in for a $7500 to win show. This is Mat Williamson's home track, so he'll be a big favorite tonight, and he needs to run well to try and close the gap to Matt Sheppard for the SDS championship. The season is starting to wind down, with only four races left until Super DIRT Week. Then after racing at Oswego in October, World Finals is the only racing left in 2023. You can watch tonight live on DIRTVision.

With the iRacing World of Outlaws Late Models on Monday night, it was all Blake Matjoulis at Williams Grove. He'd had a couple of rough weeks in a row, missing the feature at Knoxville, and finishing outside the top ten at Pevely. Last night though, he led all 50 laps from the pole, with championship leader Evan Seay second, and Logan Rumsey third. Kaden Honeycutt had a big charge through the field after starting 17th, and was up to third battling for second late. But a mistake with a few to go let Rumsey by for the final podium spot. With just three races left in the season, Seay's lead has grown to 80 points and looks to be fairly secure at this point. The final run to the end includes races at Eldora, Lincoln, and Charlotte. You can watch these live for free on Monday nights on DIRTVision and YouTube.

That's it for the show today. Hit the streaming schedule over at dirtrackr.com/watchtonight to see your options for today. You can also check out all the day's news and headlines on the front page at dirtrackr.com.
