Hey DIRTRACKR friends! Hope you're having a good weeked so far. In this new edition of The Slider we get a check in with World of Outlaws driver Robbie Price and how his first full season has gone so far. Feel free to share this email with friends, and enjoy! - Justin
Robbie Price on racing with Jason Sides, the Outlaws
JW: How’s your first full season touring with the World of Outlaws going?
RP: Not too bad; not too great either. We are chipping away at getting better each night. I feel like I am still learning, but I’m happy with the speed we have. I am getting a little frustrated with some of the results so far, but nothing happens overnight.

JW: As we hit the mid-point of the year, what are some takeaways from the season so far?
RP: I really want to improve my qualifying. I feel that I’m racing pretty good and getting better in every feature, but qualifying is an area I want to get better in. When it comes to performing well in the heats, getting the chance to race in the dash, and getting set up for the future; it’s all about qualifying well. When you qualify well, it makes you appreciate how much easier the rest of the night goes.

JW: How is your relationship with Jason and the team after being together for a full year now?
RP: I ride in the truck with Jason everywhere. We are always together! I mean, we don’t hate each other yet (Robbie laughs). We get along really well on a personal level, which transitions to the on-track relationship. Jason has taught me a lot of little things when it comes to going to new tracks that I haven’t been to, or places that I have limited experience at.

JW: Are you happy with the transition from jumping into the 7S halfway through last season as a fill in driver to now being a full time Outlaw?
RP: We are two steps ahead of the curb. Compared to last year, it’s all about focusing on making the car quicker, compared to last year where it was about me getting comfortable in the car. It’s not as much of a learning curve this year, which is nice. It’s all about improving the car, getting the setup right, and fine-tuning the whole package.

JW: What is your highlight of the season so far?
RP: I would say the High Bank Nationals at Huset’s went really well for us! The results didn’t show our speed, but the overall success rate of the team went well as we made every “A” feature. Huset’s was by far a highlight for the entire win. I was really happy with getting locked into the Kings Royal on a night where the format was a bit different from normal, along with the tough weather conditions.

JW: From your perspective looking back at the Eldora Million, what did you think of the event as a whole? Pros? Cons? Any improvements that could be made?
RP: The event was really cool! It will look even cooler when I look back ten years from now for the fact you were there and got to participate in history. The whole event was great. It was nice to see Tony Stewart give back to the open-wheel scene. Who knows if there will ever be another million-dollar race (we hope) but to look back at the event knowing that you were involved in that event is special to me.”

JW: What have you learned while racing with the Outlaws the past year in a half?
RP: Learning how cut-throat racing full time with the Outlaws. It’s way different compared to a local or regional level as everyone out here is racing for their income. The business-side really comes out when you are racing full-time compared to a part-time or hobby racer as you are not looking at racing as your primary job. When everyone is racing to pay the bills, it gets really aggressive real quick. It’s something I’ve learned ever since I got out on the road.

JW: What are some goals that you have for yourself for the rest of the year?
RP: We want to run better in features. I can come out and say I have all these goals, but I want to take it one night at a time and build on the performance from session to session. Small goals, small steps, and to try and build on every performance in the car. Seat time makes a major difference when you are racing full-time with the Outlaws which I am getting. I just have to remind myself to be patient.
